Paul Larcombe is an Elvis impersonator with very specific needs. He contacted us with the specification and a picture of a backdrop he wanted to commission. There were several ways we could have created this same design, and after some discussions we went for a transfer printing method. This method is great for precise artwork as it is first designed on a computer and then the print is transferred onto the fabric using heat. The other added benefit is that this method keeps the cost way down. The look of the backdrop was great once complete but Paul expressed concern about the durability of the materials. He would be using the backdrop twice a week and would be unfolding and folding it for each show. With this amount of wear and tear there was the worry of the transfer peeling. Seeing this we looked at the materials again and went for a slightly more expensive but sturdier method of digital fabric printing. This method uses rubber based fabric paint that is digitally applied to give a result just as crisp and precise but with very high durability. The end result was a backdrop that had the stamina to keep up with Paul's busy schedule yet the precision called for on a design like this.
